Patty Cat

My sister was telling me over the phone yesterday how she and hubby are trying to teach their son to "pat" their pet cats gently. The mental image of him just whacking away at poor Sam or Bug was too funny to keep to myself. :)

I don't plan on coloring this one because I think it's just fine as is, and I don't want to accidentally lose the cat's expression by adding anything else to the drawing.

We're back... temporarily

Weeee! It's finished!

Okay, so we're back in civilization for a short while. We won't be done in the field until late August, so don't expect any reliable updating (have I ever done reliable updating?) until then.

When we got home, after living in a cabin in the woods (albeit a nice cabin) we were surprised to discover that we'd forgotten how much we liked our apartment. It was like it was brand new all over again. Woo! And though we weren't surprised to be living in town again, and have internet access in our home again, it was a bit liberating to be able to connect to the world whenever I want to. I guess I was inspired. :)

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of our adventures in the field (Ryan has all the cool summer pictures on his laptop), so you'll have to be content with my doodling for now.

Valentine's Day.

Ah, Valentine's Day! The day when we celebrate religious martyrdom with candy hearts and mass-produced paper cards bearing sentimental fluff. I will never understand how a few Saint Valentines being burned at the stake for religious reasons eventually led to people passing out heart-shaped boxes with chocolate inside. Not that I have anything against chocolate! I just don't understand the relationship there.

Note to self: the strangest culture out there may be my own.
